Tennis Members raise over £800 for the Epilepsy Society
Chalfont St Peter Tennis Club held its annual charity fundraiser in aid of the Epilepsy Society on Thursday 18th July. This charity, based in Chalfont St Peter helps many adults and children worldwide who suffer from epilepsy, a condition that can happen to anyone. It may come as a surprise but the society is a world centre of excellence for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, and for groundbreaking research into the condition and it is right on our doorstep.
The evening began with members entering a fun tennis tournament for a small entrance fee (of which all proceeds went to the charity). Each person played 5 games of doubles. Over 20 members joined in the fun with all four courts being put to use. Stephen Wright, Head Coach organised the pairings and tournament and the top scorers were, Peter Barkway and Anna Bird.
Tennis members, Nick Trigg and Adrian Radulescu volunteered again, second year in a row, to conjure up yet another memorable meal. Their menu catered for meat eaters as well as vegetarian and gluten free diners. On the menu was Pulled Pork accompanied by home-made barbecue sauce, Peperonata, Greek Salad, Lentil Curry followed by Nick’s special Crepes Suzette with lashings of brandy and a colourful summer fruit salad. A meal to remember that’s for sure. Emma-May Darlington, joined us on the evening and gave us a very informative presentation about the Society and how our money can help.
Local businesses in Chalfont St Peter pulled together and donated various services and products to the auction and raffle which helped raise additional funds for the final amount raised.
Richard Cranston, Chairman of the club said, “We were overwhelmed with the support local businesses in Chalfont St Peter gave to our charity event and we want to extend our thanks to them all.”
The event made a terrific sum of £831 for the Epilepsy Society and the club will be presenting the cheque to the Society very soon.
These funds will be used to purchase equipment to extend and enhance the recreational facilities for in-patients at the Epilepsy Centre in Chalfont St Peter.
