Coaching Update from Stephen Wright – head coach.
The Coronavirus has impacted coaching over the summer season and we missed the first half of the Summer term. Despite this as soon as the LTA updated their guidance and allowed coaching to begin again I am pleased to say that pretty much every coaching session we ran, both adults and juniors were full for the second part of the Summer term. We would like to thank Therese for her help with the coaching communications and liaising with potential customers. I would also like to thank my mum who stepped in and assisted with sending emails and admin. tasks while I was on the Government furlough scheme. There have been a lot of hoops to go through this season but we have risen to the challenge and we continue to have one of the strongest coaching programmes for a club our size in the County. While family is important to me, so is community. I am thrilled to say that I have been part of the Chalfont St. Peter Community for many years having lived in Chalfont St. Peter for 5 years and I now live very locally in Beaconsfield. The coaching programme has formed links with many local businesses, clubs, societies and schools. It is this small community spirit that helps drive the club forward. Stephen and his coaches (some who are members of the club and are being mentored by Stephen) really do appreciate the club members flexible approach when it comes to court usage. Stephen always thinks of club members first when organising coaching while also considering the aims and objectives the club sets for him each year. It is not possible to please everyone, all of the time time, but most agree that a community tennis club likes CSPTC has an overall aim of wanting to see the clubs courts being used by all generations and for the clubs teams and social side to be thriving. We are in the fortunate position to be thriving at the moment although there will always be hurdles to jump.
We are running Summer camps this year and we have had many children from the village schools sign up. Word of mouth really is continuing to spread within the local community and we are anticipating another rise in new junior members at the club this year.
It is great to see our adult classes at the club so popular with both our adult improver classes full with waiting lists. Our adult classes are such a great way to attract adults on court and then transition from adult coaching to club social play (which can be daunting) and then on to club teams if they would like to go down this route. Stephen not only coaches adults privately at the club but also gets involved in adult gents nights and enjoys hitting against players at the club and representing CSPTC in league matches although sadly not this year due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
If you would like to ask Stephen any questions about coaching at the club he is always available and responds very quickly to queries. It is nice to coach at such a friendly club and Stephen does hope the coaching team come across as friendly and helpful too while at the same time meeting the demand and expectations from club members.
