Join in the VE celebrations at Chalfont St Peter Tennis Club on Friday 8th May 2020
Whether you like tennis or not, it does not matter, we would love you to bring yourselves, your family and friends and join in the celebration for this historic day.
When VE (Victory in Europe) Day dawns on 8th May 2020 it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent in Europe at the end of the Second World War. It meant an end to nearly six years of a war that had cost the lives of millions, had destroyed homes, families, and cities and had brought huge suffering and privations to the populations of entire countries.
This year officials have moved the traditional May bank holiday from Monday 4th May to Friday 8th May to mark this momentous occasion. The special day will be an opportunity to remember and reflect on the sacrifices that were made during the conflict, and show our gratitude to those who gave so much, so that we could live in peace.
Up and down the country people will be celebrating the holiday on May 8th, holding their own street parties and celebrations. Even if you were not born at the time of VE day, events have shaped our country to allow us to live in relative peace. It is hard to imagine what it was like to live during times of war if one has not experienced it, but we are thankful for all the sacrifices of life that were given and we hope celebrations can be had over VE bank holiday weekend.
Chalfont St Peter Tennis Club want to celebrate this day by holding a free entry public event. If you want to play in the friendly tournament then sign up below. Don’t worry if you don’t belong to a club just join in. We do ask you wear the appropriate footwear and if you want to wear what they did in the 194os then please do! Wearing whites back in 1940s were a must – so if you can dress in white that would be fabulous!
There will be 1940’s music, food and drink to purchase for a small price and some fun and games for all the family!
Spread the word to your friends and we look forward to seeing you!
